Kris LeBoutillier has done numerous photo assignments across Indochina. He traveled
the length of Vietnam-from the mountains along the Chinese border to the floating
villages of the Mekong Delta-shooting photographs for the National Geographic Traveler
Guidebook to Vietnam. A contributor for National Geographic Traveler magazine, Kris
has been on assignment in Tasmania; Rajasthan, India; Singapore; and Hue, Vietnam.
His recent book, Iron Rails of the Orient, covers a train ride that took him through
Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, China, and Tibet.
According to Kris LeBoutillier, photography is about telling a story. Whether it
is one perfect picture, or a series of pictures, photography must say something.
When he is working on an assignment or a personal project, he is constantly looking
for scenes that give a sense of place, or tell a story about a person or the people
he is photographing.
