Darren Chang is a professional automotive detailer and his work is found in major
international car shows, showroom displays and private garages. He runs and owns
AutoDetailer Sdn Bhd, a specialized detailing garage in Petaling Jaya. He bought
his first DSLR when the Sony A100 was launched and began shooting the cars that
he worked on a daily basis to document the restoration processes so as to provide
his clients with before/after comparisons. It wasn't long before he caught the attention
of car magazines and he has since been commissioned for several automotive photo-shoots.
He draws his inspiration from famous automotive photographers like Easton Chang,
Lee Brimble & Morgan J. Segal among others.
"I try to bring a more evocative, emotional and unique perspective to the cars I
shoot. And to do that, you have to constantly push yourself to the next level."
says Darren.
"I shoot with a Sony Alpha because it has a lot of features that I find pretty cool.
Like the Super Steady Shot function or the Eye-Start. I love the fact that I can
control most of my camera's features with my right hand, thanks to the Quick-Navi
feature on my A700. My father was an SLR man back in the old Minolta days and I
have inherited some of his legacy lenses. They work beautifully and the colours
are natural and brilliant!"
